New Accounting Standards in Portugal
The new Portuguese Accounting Standards – SNC (Sistema de Normalização Contabilística) were approved on "Decreto-Lei 158/2009", from the 13th of July 2009, and came into force on the 1st of January 2010.
SNC adapts the current accounting principles accepted in Portugal to the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs).
This process will be a challenge for most companies as the new principles are quite different from the current ones (POC – Plano Oficial de Contabilidade).
KPMG in Portugal is advising companies in this transition, not only through the support in the conversion processes, but also by providing training to companies’ employees.
KPMG is providing training sessions with the objective of helping companies to adapt to the new accounting standards. These training sessions are taking place in Lisbon and Porto.
